FAQs

How do I find a book?

  • Books can be located with the the Catalog (Physical Collections: Books, Videos, Magazines in the library) on the Library home page, in the Find Information box.
  • Enter your search term/s (Ex: "Of Mice and Men" or "global warming"). Then select a search method - by: words or phrase, author, title, subject, etc.
  • Click Search

How do I access the databases to find an article?

  • Follow the instructions below to login to the Online Databases from an off-campus computer:
  1. From the Library home page click on Databases (Electronic Resources: Journals, Articles, E-books, and Streaming videos).
  2. Please follow the login instructions exactly using CAPITAL letters and no spaces.
  3. After successfully entering a username and password, you will see an alphabetical list of database options. Many of them are subject specific: history, literature, etc.
  4. Whichever database you choose, be sure to check the FULL-TEXT option box.

What are the library hours?

  • Library Hours (Central Standard Time)

Monday-Thursday 7:30 am to 9:30 pm

Friday (During Semesters) 7:30 am to 4:30 pm

Friday (During Summer) 7:30 am to 11:30 am

Saturday 11 am to 5 pm

Sunday 1 pm to 8 pm

May I use the library if I am not a student?

  • Hobby Memorial Library is open to everyone. You may use all library resources while physically in the building: library books, magazines, reference materials, study rooms, database access and copiers.
  • Public computers and printers in the Multimedia Lab may be used with a current driver’s license or military ID.

May I print something or make copies? If so, is there a fee?

  • Printers are located in the Multimedia Center in the east wing of the library and cost is .25 cents per page. You must purchase a print card at the Circulation Desk; they are available in various denominations.  We accept cash or checks only to purchase print cards.
  • Copy machines are located in the Periodicals section in the west wing of the library and cost is .25 cents per page. The copy machines accept bills and coins.
  • Faxing is available at the Circulation Desk for 50 cents per page.
  • Laminating is available for 50 cents per foot—please see a member of the Circulation Staff for more information.
  • Scanning is free.

How do I renew my books?

  • You may renew your books online by following these steps:
  • From the Library home page, click Catalog (Physical Collections: Books, Videos, Magazines in the library).
  • Click My Account, then Renew My Materials.
  • Enter your UserID (CTC Student ID number) and four-digit PIN and click List Charged Items.
  • Check the boxes next to the items you wish to renew and then click Renew Selected Items.

How do I cite this?

  • From the Library home page, click Citation Help in the Get Help box for websites that will help in understanding MLA or APA format.
  • Need help with citation and writing styles? We suggest registering for one of our seminars.

Does the library have wireless Internet (WiFi)?

  • Yes, the entire library has free wireless Internet and you do not need a special login or password. Choose CTC Student to connect. There are outlets throughout the library and in all study rooms for laptops.

Does the library have class textbooks to check out?

  • The library does not generally have required class textbooks for regular check out. We do have a reserve area at the Circulation desk where instructors place class textbooks for student use while the student is physically in the Library. Reserve items may be checked out for up to two hours at a time, be used at the copy machines and be used anywhere within the library—but must never leave the library.

How do I get a library card?

  • Current CTC students, faculty and staff will use their CTC ID cards. Bring your valid ID card to the Circulation desk to have it activated as your library card. If your card is not valid (updated to the current semester), you may go to Student Services (Bldg. 119), room 100, to have it updated.
