Beginning Art- New
Students will use charcoal and pastels to perform several basic art exercises. Instruction on composition, perspective, value drawing and color theory will cover basic techniques needed for a beginning student to move on to more advanced drawing and painting classes. The goal of this class is not to complete a finished piece of art but to practice motor skills, hand-eye coordination and perceive an artist’s way of viewing tints, tones and shades of color. A supply list will be provided. Kenneth Taylor holds a bachelor’s degree in education and has over 20 years of experience operating and teaching at recreational arts and crafts facilities throughout the world. (4 meetings)

Basic Photography
This basic course will teach you how to use your film/digital 35mm SLR (single lens reflect) camera. Learn about lighting, techniques for taking better pictures, how to overcome common problems for 35mm and digital photography. Students are asked to bring 5-10 photographs to the first class (some of your best work and some that didn’t come out the way you planned). Be prepared to share your photographs and gain feedback from your peers. Class will include several field trips. Students must bring a film/digital SLR 35mm camera to class (no point and shoot cameras). There may be some expense if you use film that must be developed. This class does not include darkroom instruction. Birgitta Riley is an award winning photographer with over six years of photography experience. (6 meetings)

Glass Mosaic
Make beautiful stained glass mosaic items for your garden! Learn how to use a glass cutter, mosaic cutter and pliers. Students will get hands-on experience in mosaic application and grout techniques. Students must purchase mosaic kits from the instructor. Kit prices will vary depending on the project you choose (Cross/$30, Texas Stepping Stone/$45, Small Birdbath/$60, Welcome Stone/$30). Jean Porras is the owner of a local garden ornament business and has been designing and manufacturing mosaic garden pieces and kits since 1999. (1 meeting)

Jewelry Making with Silver Clay
Make a piece of jewelry for yourself or to give as a gift. Learn how to use art clay products to make jewelry that is .999 fine silver. Students will get hands-on experience making a set of earrings or a pendant, creating and using molds with solder with a gas torch. Beginners should plan to purchase approximately $150 worth of tools and supplies from the instructor. Bring a lunch. Ken Barnett has a Level 1 certification for teaching art clay and has 25 years of experience making jewelry. (1 meeting)

Acrylic Painting
Acrylic painting requires the student to perceive color values but also press beyond to simultaneously incorporate the complexities of color to their compositions. Color theory and color mixing will be covered in class. Critiques will concentrate on positive aspects of the student’s work since all students will not work at the same level. Class will include lecture, demonstration and practice under supervision. Bring an apron or wear durable clothing! A supply list may be picked up or mailed to students. Watercolor
Have fun painting in watercolor! Your painting background does not matter, and the only prerequisite is a willingness to be open and experiment. Class will cover color theory, techniques and perspective. Subject matter will include clouds, trees and basic landscapes. Plan to bring art supplies to the first class (supply list available upon request). Joe Friddle is a retired high school teacher and professional artist whose works hang in many parts of Texas, the United States and internationally. (6 meetings)

Stained Glass
Learn how to make beautiful stained glass pieces! Instruction and demonstration of step-by-step procedures will walk the student through the Tiffany style of producing stained glass. This is a demonstration class. Kenneth Taylor (see Beginning Art). (2 meetings)

Matting & Framing
Matting and framing can often be the most expensive part of art! Learn how to cut glass, cut mats and assemble frames and matted art work. Course will also include different approaches for two- and three-dimensional art pieces. This is a demonstration class by Kenneth Taylor (See Beginning Art). (2 meetings)
