Native Plants for the Central Texas Landscape
If you’ve ever experienced a Central Texas summer, then you know how challenging gardening can be in this area. Discover the history of native plants and different varieties that flourish in Central Texas. Class will focus on soil, compost and fertilizers, perennials, trees, and more. Students will also receive tips for creating “wildscapes” and applying for the Texas Parks and Wildlife “Best of Texas Backyard Habitat” program. Bring $7.50 to class for handouts. Ken Schoen has over 10 years of experience growing and wholesaling plants and is a host speaker for chapters of the Native Plant Society of Texas. (6 meetings) (1.05 CEUs)

Organic Gardening
Learn how to grow nutritious food for your family without the cost of expensive fertilizers and harmful pesticides. Topics will include soil preparation, chemical vs. organic pesticides, mulching, planting, layout and more. Please bring graph paper, a notebook, pencil and a Farmer’s Almanac. Jane Toliver is an experienced instructor with over 35 years of gardening experience. (4 meetings)

Container Gardens- New
Even the smallest patio or porch can be made more attractive with a beautiful container garden. Learn about basic design and how to care for container gardens. Students will get hands on experience working with live flowers. Bring a container that has a drainage hole and $15 for supplies. Kelly Minor is a landscape architect. (1 meeting)

Advanced Native Plant Landscaping
This advanced course will include an overview of soil, compost and fertilizers, perennials and trees. Students will also share successes and failures with native plants and learn about new native plants in the market. Class will include fieldtrips to local nurseries and one student’s home landscape per week (to be determined in class). The pamphlet Texas Natives: Ornamental Trees ($2) is optional.
