COMPUTER USE AGREEMENT
The purpose of this agreement is to protect the computing resources of the department and to specify the rules and requirements that govern student use of the computer labs. Abiding by these rules is required for use of the computer labs. Students who violate this agreement may be expelled from the course with a grade of F.
NOTE: Any computer use may be monitored while on the CTC CSD network.
1. Access. Computer Labs are only for use by authorized students.
- Lab users must display their current Lab Badge, and, on request, present personal identification
- Only instructors may issue Lab Badges this also applies to duplicates
- Temporary badges may be issued by staff, if the instructor is unavailable and student can prove enrollment in a current CSD class
- Any recordable media brought into the labs must first be scanned by one of the departments Virus Scanner Machines
- Do NOT bring large USB storage/backup devices into the labs
- Do not use USB devices with operating systems installed (e.g. U3). Lab Manager can assist you with removing the U3 system off your thumb drive.
No children or friends allowed in the labs, unless they also are issued a Lab Badge
(Note: CTC notifies Child Protective Services if unattended children are found.)- Do NOT bring food or drinks into the labs (not even water or candy)
- Set cell phones to off or silent/vibrate; answer them outside
- Do NOT bring any software or viruses into the labs
2. Lab Use.
- Please notify staff of any equipment problems
- Do NOT change any settings (desktop, printers, etc.)
- Do not tamper with the system or try to access any files or directories other than those required for course work
- Do not create any paths, directories, or files on the hard disk unless required for course work
- Do not copy or alter software or documentation
- Do not introduce any malware (e.g. viruses) into the labs
- Upon request, surrender your media to an instructor or lab assistant for review (failure to do so will result in eviction from the lab and possibly from class)
- Do not access or use another persons work, files, passwords, etc.
- Do not use the computers or network for any personal or commercial purposes
- Be gentle with the equipment. Any student found abusing the equipment in the laboratories will be immediately removed from the lab and processed for withdrawal from the respective class
- Disruptive behavior may result in eviction from the lab, and possibly the class
- Internet access is for classroom assignments ONLY!
- Students are responsible for good behavior on the Internet. General institutional rules for behavior and communications apply. (Revised Policy No. 295: Computer Usage is at http://www.ctcd.edu/hrman/tab2/295.pdf). Some items it specifies are:
- Do not reveal passwords to those not entitled to them
- Do not send or view offensive words, messages or pictures
- NO email (unless required by instructor)
- NO instant messaging (unless required by instructor)
- NO chat rooms (unless required by instructor)
- Do not stream content (unless required by instructor)
- No game playing (unless required by instructor)
- Do not violate copyright laws
- Do not send spam, chain letters, or forwards
- Do not reveal anyone's personal information (e.g. address, phone number) on any work posted to any server
- Do not install ANYTHING on lab computers unless explicitly directed by your instructor or lab personnel.
