Mr. Grazinski has been working with computers since 1983 when microcomputers were just becoming available. His first microcomputer had 256 kilobytes of memory and a 20 megabyte hard drive. It cost over $2,000 and he thought it would last forever. He now has a micro with 4 gigabytes of memory and a 500 gigabyte hard drive which cost much less than his first microcomputer. Today's micros have more processing power than the IBM mainframes of 20 years ago.
He started in programming because it was a challenge to write code that caused the computer to do what he wanted it to do. As he tells his students, "A computer without programming is worthless and it takes a person to write or direct a computer to do what you want it to do by supplying it with the code or language it understands." He then took an interest in Networking and when the college began teaching network courses he became certified as a CNE (Certified Novell Engineer) so he would be prepared to teach those courses.
Mr Grazinski chose the IT field as a profession for the challenge of writing code that would get a computer to do what you wanted. He enjoyed figuring out the logic and finding errors, he felt as if he'd won a prize when debugging a particularly difficult problem.
Teaching is important to him as it gives him the opportunity to affect individuals and families by presenting information that leads to skills that allows the student to better him or herself in the marketplace. He says "The greatest satisfaction a teacher gets is when a former student relates how the education and skills they acquired at CTC has changed their lives for the better." |
