Retirement Policy for Transferability:
- Retirement eligible- 20 yrs=no additional time.
- Approved retirement on or after 1Sep 09 but before 1 Jun 2010, no additional time.
- Eligible on or after 2 Aug 09 and before 2 Aug 10, One year additional.
- Eligible on or after 2 Aug 10 and before 2 Aug 11, Two years additional.
- Eligible on or after 2 Aug 11 and before 2 Aug 12, Three years additional.
Transferability Certifying Officials:
- Enlisted Soldiers- Unit Career Counselor
- General Officers- Chief, General Officer MGT Office
- Colonels- Chief, Colonels Management Office
- 2LT LTC&W01-CW5-Commanding General, U.S. Army Human Resources Command
- Army National Guard- Director, Army National Guard
- U.S. Army Reserve Soldiers- Chief, Army Reserve
- The GOMO, COMO, and CG, HRC will identify certifying officials.
Transfer Basics:
- Establish eligibility for benefits with VA at www.gibill.va.gov.
- To to the TEB site and declare which Family Member(s) and how may months: https://www.dmdc.osd.mil/TEB
- Establish retention criteria with certifying official (see list above)
- Once approved, Family Members(s) apply for benefits at VA site on VA Form 22-1990e if they are attending school now. Otherwise wait until attending since they need to know school data for application.
