The Fort Polk site has been in operation since the late 1970's. Until 1992 the site only offered contracted classes, and operated the MOS Libraries and Army Learning Centers on post. The site was also responsible for all BSEP (now FAST), ASEP (now LSEP), and MOS Enhancement classes and Testing Services.

In 1992 CTC was allowed to start a pilot college program patterned after the Leaders Accelerated Applied Management Program (LAAMP) offered at Fort Hood, Texas. The program and accompanying Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was limited to only the AAS in Applied Management degree. The first Classes were offered in March of 1992 with forty-one enrollments.

By 1994 our enrollments had increased to a point where, after conducting a needs assessment, the government modified our MOU to allow seven degree programs to be offered;

Enrollments continued to increase. In 2000 the MOU was again revised and four more degrees were added;

Hospitality Management which includes Restaurant and Culinary Management,
and Hotel Management Specialization;
Early Childhood Professions,
Legal Assistant, and
Social Science

We were also authorized to do selected courses from the Aviation Maintenance Technology degree.

Enrollments continued to increase until we reached our high of 916 during Term II 2002, making is the largest on-post college. During this time the physical makeup of Fort Polk also changed. Prior to 1992 Fort Polk was the home of the Fifth Infantry Division (Mechanized) (5 ID (M) )with just over 15,000 soldiers. In 1992-1993 the 5 ID (M) moved to Fort Hood, Texas and the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) moved from Little Rock AFB to Fort Polk. This move reduced the troop population of Fort Polk to approximately 8,500 that we have today.

Today Fort Polk is home to JRTC, Warrior Brigade, Second Armored Cavalry (2 ACR) and the 509th Infantry Battalion (Airborne). The primary mission of JRTC is to provide 21 day brigade sized training rotations for the Army's light infantry units. The 509th In Bn serves as the opposing force for these rotations. Warrior Brigade provides support functions for the base and its tenant units. While Fort Polk is now considered one of the Army's prime training facilities, the majority of the units stationed here are deployable units and have played a major role in conflicts around the world. In January 2005, Fort Polk will again undergo transition when the 2nd ACR relocates to Fort Lewis, WA and the 4th Bde, 10th Mountain Division calls Fort Polk home. The Fort Polk site also serves as the contact point for Fort Polk students wishing to take Distance Education courses. Students register at the Fort Polk office and the site provides student services, such as ordering text books for VA 31 students, providing third party billing for VA-31 students, and acting as Test Site for Distance Education students.

The Fort Polk site relies on the Continental and CTC Main Campus' in Killeen, Tx for support in the areas of Curriculum, Student Services, Marketing materials, Human Resource Management, Payroll services, Long Term Records Management, Employee Benefits, Instructor Approvals, and other support services the site cannot perform due to space limitations.
