FAQs for VA Benefits

Q1. How do I become a VA student with CTC Fort Stewart/Hunter AAF?

Answer: Complete the checklist and return forms to your local CTC office.

Q2. I have never applied for my VA Benefits; what is the first step?

Answer: Complete a 22-1990 (Application for VA Educational Benefits). This form can be complete online at the VA website.

Q3. If I was attending CTC at another location or attending a different school, do I need to make any changes?

Answer: Yes. Anytime you change your college/university/tech school or degree plan, you will need to complete a 22-1995 (Request for Change of Program or Place of Training). This form can be completed online at the VA website or at your local CTC office.

Q4. How long does it take to process my applications for my educational benefits?

Answer: It takes a minimum of 30 days from receipt in the VA Regional Processing Office. For more information, contact VA directly at 1-888-442-4551 or go online to their website at www.gibill.va.gov.

Q5. What is considered full time enrollment for Post 9/11?

Answer: It involves hours and length of the course(s). Normally, 6 hours at 8 weeks in length will put you at full time status.  One (1) course MUST be taken in the classroom. For more information, visit the VA website at www.gibill.va.gov.

Q6. Do I have to pay for my courses at the time of enrollment?

Answer: Yes, if you are utilizing Chpt 30 (Montgomery GiBill).
Chpt 33 (Post 9/11) does not require payment UNLESS VA does not cover 100% of tuition cost or student has not provided a copy of the Certificate of Enrollment (COE) to the school. Registration is not official until tuition is paid in full.

Q7. If I elect to register or withdraw online, how do I notify the school that I am registered for classes?

Answer: For registering:  Complete the VA Enrollment Certification Request form
For withdrawing:  Complete the VA Withdrawal/Drop Certification Request form.
If the school is not notified of your enrollment or withdrawal, you will not be paid your benefits or you could be overpaid.

Q8. How do I receive my benefits?

Answer: You must certify yourself each month to receive your benefits. This means starting on the last day of the month, you will need to call VA at (1-877-823-2378) or go online to the VA website to WAVE (Web Automated Verification of Enrollment).

Q9. Am I eligible for the $3,000 advance payment?

Answer: No.  This benefit is no longer available.
