Central Texas Regional Police Academy (TCLEOSE License #511261)

The Central Texas Regional Police Academy offers basic peace officer training that qualifies graduates to take the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education, TCLEOSE, peace officer licensing examination. Licensing by TCLEOSE may lead to employment as a peace officer (e.g., municipal police officer, deputy sheriff, constable, etc.) in the state of Texas.

Admission to the full-time Basic Peace Officer Course (BPOC) is limited to cadets who are employed as a police recruit, prospective recruit, or prospective reserve peace officer, who have been processed as an applicant and meet the enrollment standards for admission and licensing as a peace officer in Texas (according to entry requirements established by the Academy's Advisory Board and TCLEOSE rules). The course is 20 to 21 weeks long (spring/fall, depending upon holiday scheduling), with classes conducted from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Admission to the Extended Basic Peace Officer Course (XBPOC) is open to applicants who meet the minimum enrollment standards established by TCLEOSE and standard college admission requirements of Central Texas College. The XBPOC is a 'for-credit' program crediting graduates with 23 semester hours (four 5-semester hour courses and one 3-semester hour course) of college work.

The program consists of four separate courses spread over a 10 1/2-month period, with classes meeting from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings and from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays.

Both courses are conducted using the same 618-hour curriculum required by TCLEOSE. However, additional hours have been added to several blocks that the Academy Advisory Board deems necessary to emphasize and enhance, bringing the total number of clock hours to 740. The additional hours also include testing and mandatory physical conditioning blocks and mandatory study group sessions.

The BPOC is conducted twice--from April through August and from October through February of the next year. The XBPOC begins each October and concludes the following August.
