Several students in the Central Texas College Fine Arts Department were recognized recently for outstanding work using various art media during the school's annual Student Art Show. The show featured works from studio classes held in the fall 2009 and spring 2010 semesters.

Awards of merit were presented to Amber Crimmings, for her acrylic painting “Chaotic Beauty;” Amie Gandy for the “Golden Sands” clay pot; Dara Holdstock for her silver cuff bracelet; Joe Collins for his “Crawfish” silver ring; Natasha Campbell for her photograph entitled “Stripes on Stripes;” and Rose Garcia for assorted clay figures.

Entries in the Student Art Show included works of charcoal studies of the human form by the figure drawing classes; digital collage and painting by students in Photoshop; and acrylic, oil and mixed media paintings. 3-D design students exhibited sculptures in the round using a variety of materials and techniques while art metals students presented metal pieces that were hand-worked as well as cast-created into both wearable and decorative items.

Students in the ceramics classes displayed clay vessels constructed by traditional hand-building techniques while photography students presented a variety of photographic techniques from the traditional dark room-oriented works to computer manipulated works and mixed media compositions.
