NEW
CTC PROGRAM TO SAVE TIME AND MONEY TOWARDS FOUR-YEAR DEGREE
FOR TRANSFERRING OR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
Central Texas
College (CTC) recently introduced a program which will provide
a new opportunity for a seamless transition from CTC to
a bachelor's degree at Tarleton State University-Central
Texas. Students can get a jump start on a successful career
through the program which allows you to apply technical
hours, work experience or military experience toward a Bachelor
of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) or Bachelor of Science
in Applied Science (BSAS) degree.
Known as the Central Texas College "Technology Two-Step,"
the program will enable students to use their technological
interest and background as part of a bachelor's degree.
“This is an excellent way for students to apply what they've
already learned on the job or in the military toward college
credit hours,” noted Pamela Boivie, CTC's transfer counselor.
“This will replace some of the courses required for certain
degree plans. Therefore, it will save the student tuition
and book money and put them that much closer to earning
their four-year degree.”
Step One of the program is relative to high school students.
They may earn college credit for Tech Prep courses and apply
them towards an associate's degree at the community college
level. Students are encouraged to work with a CTC counselor
to ensure a smooth transition into the degree program.
Step Two is for community college students or working adults.
They may transfer 12 to 48 credit hours of technical courses
(or the equivalent work or military experience) as part
of a BAAS degree, or 12 to 27 credit hours (or the equivalent
work or military experience) may be transferred as part
of the BSAS degree. A student must have completed at least
12 semester credit hours of technical credit or equivalent
to be eligible for consideration in the two-step program.
“Students can work with a Tarleton-Central Texas advisor
and tailor a customized program of study that fits their
academic and career goals,” explains Boivie. “The BAAS degree
plan offers areas of emphasis in management, computer information
systems and marketing. The BSAS degree plan also provides
emphasis on these same areas, and it also includes areas
of child development, criminal justice and sociology.”
Registration for spring semester classes will resume at
CTC May 8 through June 2.
