ranked 16th in nation among community college degree producers;
first
in Texas
Central
Texas College (CTC) improved its ranking among the Top 100
Associate Degree and Certificate Producers in 2008. According
to Community College Magazine which compiles the
top 100 list, CTC ranked 16th in the country and first in
Texas among community colleges. The local college ranked
20th the previous year. CTC increased the total number of
associate degrees conferred by 11 percent to 2,494.
CTC
ranked first in Texas ahead of Lone Star College System
(18) formerly North Harris Montgomery Community College
District, Houston Community College System (20), Tarrant
County College District (30), El Paso Community College
(34) and San Jacinto Community College (40).
CTC
also ranked in the top 100 nationwide for specific associate
degree plans awarded. For multi/interdisciplinary studies
degrees conferred, CTC was second in the nation (first in
Texas ). For criminal justice degrees awarded, CTC placed
14th in the nation and first in Texas . It also placed 15th
in the nation and first in Texas in security/protective
service degrees awarded. CTC also ranked 46th (third in
Texas ) for computer and information services and support
services degrees and 50th nationwide (fourth in Texas )
in family and consumer sciences/human services degrees.
Across
the country, more than 565,000 associate degrees and one-
and two-year certificates were awarded in academic year
2007-'08 by public, private non-profit and proprietary institutions.
The current analysis of the top 100 degree-producers was
collected through the National Center for Education Statistics
Integrated Postsecondary Education Data Set completions
survey. The analysis
considers only Title IV eligible institutions which means
an institution must be accredited by either a regional or
specialized accreditation agency that is recognized by the
U.S. Department of Education.

is a public, two-year community college located between
Killeen and Copperas Cove just off Highway 190, approximately

in academic, professional and vocational/technical fields.
A wide variety of courses are offered from agriculture to
criminal justice, drama to nursing and business administration
to telecommunications. The college serves the needs of full-time
and part-time students by offering daytime, evening and

has articulation agreements with many four-year institutions,
