Foundation announces new CEFCO Endowed Scholarship
The
Central Texas College (CTC) Foundation was the recent beneficiary
of a new endowed scholarship thanks to a $25,000 donation
by James and Kim Fikes, owners of CEFCO Convenience Stores.
The C.E. (CEFCO) Fikes Endowed Scholarship will be used
to assist students majoring in business to include accounting,
marketing and management as well as human resources and
information technology.
The
endowed scholarship is named in honor of Mr. C.E. Fikes,
a native of Cameron, Texas . He is the founder of Fikes
Wholesale, Inc., the holding company for CEFCO Convenience
Stores, Fleet Fuel, Sunbelt Ice, CORD Financial Services,
Group Petroleum Services and JF Air Traffic, Inc.
A
$25,000 check was recently presented to Judy Heartfield,
CTC Foundation director, during a banquet at the conclusion
of CEFCO's annual golf tournament fundraiser in Salado.
“We are so thrilled to receive this endowment and CEFCO's
choice to support higher education in this manner,” noted
Heartfield. “This donation is evidence of the company's
dedication to helping others in the communities it serves
and highlights the company's goal which is to ‘do the right
thing.' We look forward to presenting the first CEFCO scholarship
next year.”
CEFCO
Convenience Stores have been in operation since 1979 and
is headquartered in Temple, TX . It is a fast growing chain
of convenience stores with 124 locations across Texas, Mississippi
and Alabama. It has also become a community leader through
its' 10-year corporate sponsorship of the Children's Miracle
Network.
The
CTC Foundation was incorporated in 1992 for the purpose
of providing scholarships for deserving people who seek
the opportunity for self improvement. Last year more than
220 scholarships totaling nearly $157,000 were presented
to deserving students.
