CTC
CHANCELLOR INDUCTED INTO HALL OF FAME
Dr.
James Anderson, chancellor of Central Texas College (CTC)
was recently inducted to the International Adult and Continuing
Education (IACE) Hall of Fame at a ceremony held in Norfolk
, VA. Dr. Anderson was honored for his contributions in
the field of adult learning and his leadership in providing
continuing education opportunities.
Dr.
Anderson was appointed CTC chancellor in 1988 and has since
led the community college in expanding its involvement in
military voluntary education while branching out into innovative
programs using the newest technologies to deliver education
services. His leadership and achievements earned him the
William Kennedy Award of the Council of College and Military
Educators in 2001.
Under
his guidance, CTC established dedicated classroom facilities
at Fort Hood in 1989. In 2001 the new CTC Fort Hood Administration
Building was dedicated on Fort Hood , thus becoming the
first college-owned building on a military installation.
Dr. Anderson was also instrumental in CTC being awarded
the first-ever FORSCOM foreign language contract in 2002
and two Worldwide Army Educational Support subcontracts
in 2006.
CTC's
adult education and continuing education programs have flourished
with Dr. Anderson at the helm. Adults are able to obtain
their high school GED and partake in reading, writing and
math courses through adult basic education classes. The
program also offers adult literacy courses, English-as-a-Second
Language and citizenship classes. The Continuing Education
program provides opportunities for personal enrichment,
professional development, workforce enhancement and physical
activity through non-credit courses. The number of courses
offered has grown to more than 100 classes each semester.
The
IACE Hall of Fame was officially established in 1993 at
the University of Oklahoma 's College of Continuing Education
. It was designed as a mechanism to recognize and honor
living and deceased adult and continuing educators who had
distinguished themselves as scholars and practitioners in
perpetuity. Since the inaugural induction in 1996, IACE
Hall of Fame membership now includes more than 170 living
and 45 deceased members with such notables as former first
lady Barbara Bush and Channing Rice Dooley.
