FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) To apply for federal student financial aid, and to apply for many state student aid programs, students must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In part, the information you provide on your FAFSA determines your eligibility for financial aid. Before you complete the 2008-2009 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for Fall 2008, Spring and Summer 2009 classes, have a copy of your completed 2007 income tax return (IRS Form 1040, 1040A, or EZ) and/or your parents' 2007 tax return and W-2 forms available as these items are needed to complete your online FAFSA. Often, tax information--especially taxes paid--is entered incorrectly and the appropriate corrections must be made later. CAUTION: Having to make corrections slows down the financial aid process.  Register for a FAFSA PIN (needed to electronically sign FAFSA). Parents must also register for a FAFSA PIN to electronically sign the FAFSA. Before completing the online FAFSA, we recommend reading these time-saving suggestions from the FAFSA website. Then, complete the online FAFSA at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov, following all instructions given. Most questions and problems can be answered or avoided by reading all of the instructions.
