New staff administrative computers installed by the CTC IT Division are no longer equipped with 3.5-inch floppy disk drives. The computer industry continually makes advances in technology and discontinues outdated components such as the floppy drives. The new staff administrative computers come equipped with a DVD +/- RW. Faculty and Student academic computers will continue to be equipped with 3.5-inch floppy disks, but only as long as the motherboard industry provides the ability for an internal floppy connection. Zip drives are no longer installed internally. If you need a zip drive to continue operations, then your department will need to purchase an external zip drive that can be connected by USB. Computers are generally replaced on a three year rotation. If your department computers are to be replaced soon, transfer your files to a compact disc (CD) or flash drive. If you use programs that require a floppy drive or zip drive, click here to fill out the Equipment Request form and the IT Customer Service Department will send you a quote on the specified equipment.
