Permanently Deleting E-mail from MS Outlook

  1. DISCUSSION

When you delete an email message from MS Outlook it is sent to the Deleted Items folder where it will be stored until it is permanently deleted. Messages that are not permanently deleted will accumulate on the CTC email system’s database and needlessly occupy disk storage. The following steps explain how to manually delete email from MS Outlook or set MS Outlook to automatically delete email upon exiting the application.

  1. PROCEDURE

    1. To manually delete email from the Deleted Items folder:

      1. Open MS Outlook.

      1. Click “Tools” and click “Empty “Deleted Items” Folder” (see Figure 1).

      1. Click “Yes” and the deleted items folder will be emptied (see Figure 2).

    2. To automate email deletion from the Deleted Items folder:

      1. Open MS Outlook.

      2. Click “Tools” and click “Options” at the bottom of the drop down menu.

      3. Click the “Other” tab.

      4. Check the “Empty the Deleted Items Folder When Exiting” box (see figure 3).

      1. Click “Apply” and then “OK".
