When you visit a website, its server sends a cookie to your browser to make navigating the site more personalized and efficient. Cookies contain small amounts of data that certain Internet companies and websites will use to send spam and third party banner advertisements to your computer. To protect yourself from identity theft or a virus the best policy is to periodically erase the cookies stored on your hard drive. If you use more than one browser, such as Internet Explorer and Netscape browser, then be aware that each browser has a separate storage area for cookies.
PROCEDURE
To delete cookies in Internet Explorer:
Open Internet Explorer
Click Tools and click Internet Options at the bottom of the menu.

- Click Ok in the Delete Cookies window (see Figure 2).

- Click Ok in the Internet Options menu.
To delete cookies in Netscape Browser:
Open Netscape Browser.
Click Tools and click Options in the drop-down menu.
Click the Privacy icon.
Click the plus sign “+” next to Cookies.
- Select “Keep Cookies” and select how long you want to maintain cookies on your computer (see Figure 3).

Click Clear.
Click OK in the Confirm Clear Histories window.
Click OK in the Options window.
