When you leave your computer for any length of time, such as when you go home for the night or leave the office for a long time, log off your computer. Logging off ends your session on the CTC network for your computer. This allows the network to scan your computer for viruses and, from a security standpoint, protects the data on your computer. However, if you are working on a document and need to step out of the office for a few minutes, it is easier to lock your computer. Your documents will remain as you left them and when you return, you can continue working without having to open the program or file.
PROCEDURE
To lock your computer:
Press the “Ctrl”, “Alt”, and “Delete” keys at the same time.
Click the “Lock Computer” button.
When you return, press the “Ctrl”, “Alt”, and “Delete” keys and enter your password.
To log off your computer:
Click on the START button in the lower left-hand corner of your screen.
Press the “Log Off” button in the lower right-hand corner of the drop-down menu.
Press the “Log Off” button in the Log Off Windows box.
Alternative to logging off:
Press the “Ctrl”, “Alt”, and “Delete” keys at the same time.
Press the “Log Off” button in the center of the Windows Security box.
