Santos Graham
Santos Graham is a philosopher, and truly believes in the joy of learning. Ms. Graham studied in a private Catholic University, and obtained her Ph. D. in philosophy from the University of Navarre, Spain. Although she says she is not the best Catholic you can meet, she has been in Academy all of her life. Ms. Graham has taught multiple courses in Spain, Mexico, and in the United States covering philosophical subjects such as Symbolic Logic, Analytic Philosophy of Language, Education, Sociolinguistics, and World Religions; those subjects are tied into her research interest: The triad ‘Reality, Mind, and Language.’
Ms. Graham has lived in San Diego since 1995; here, she attended UCSD to improve her English pursuing a degree in Gifted Education. She says she is still unsuccessfully working on polishing her accent, and feels she will die with it :). Ms. Graham also works for National University and San Diego City College.
Despite everything, she is a philosopher that enjoys learning, and will be very happy in her tomb if she is able to infuse that love for knowledge in some of her students.
Steve Thorn
Steve is a native San Diegan whose family has lived in the area since the 1860s. After graduating from Grossmont High School and Grossmont College, he enjoyed an idyllic 2 1/2 years on California's Central Coast while earning a B.S. in Journalism at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Steve later received a M.A. in History at the University of San Diego. He began his teaching career at CTC in 1994 as a NCPACE instructor aboard three naval ships: Juneau, Jarrett, and the decommissioned San Bernardino.
Upon returning to dry land, Steve taught history and English basic skills courses for CTC at NAS El Centro, San Clemente Island, Camp Pendleton, Miramar, SUBASE, NASNI, and NAVSTA bases. Steve is a contributing writer for the San Diego Troubadour, a local music publication. His most memorable assignments were interviewing Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members John Sebastian (The Lovin' Spoonful), Roger McGuinn (The Byrds), Richie Furay (Buffalo Springfield) and rockabilly pioneer Wanda Jackson.
Lindsay Jacobs holds a BA and MA in Communication Studies from Northern Illinois University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. Ms. Jacobs has taught Public Speaking for the Navy, the Marines, and the Coast Guard and enjoys hearing her students speak about their experiences in the military, which they frequently do in her class.
Whether it’s a class discussion, partner/group work, or formal and informal speeches, students spend the majority of class time interacting and participating. It is important for students to have as much time speaking in front of the class as possible, and she has created a variety of speeches for students to present every week. She strives to make the classroom a warm and welcoming environment so that students can overcome their anxiety about public speaking.
Ms. Jacobs’ goal is for students to take away skills that will benefit them in all communication situations—formal and informal, personal and professional—and to leave class confident and effective communicators.

dictate. We will inspire, not dominate. We will cause respect, not

than to serve!" We all must make a difference for the better!
