The Central Texas College (CTC) Fine Arts department will present the musical “The Fantasticks” next week, April 19-21. The theatre and music factions will join forces to present their version of one of the world’s longest running musicals. Show time is at 7:30 p.m. each night in the CTC Fine Arts auditorium (Bldg. 106) and doors open at 7 p.m.

“The Fantasticks” is a funny and romantic musical about a boy, a girl and their two fathers, neighboring widowers, who plot to romantically unite their son and daughter by pretending to feud and forbidding the two children to associate with each other. The narrator, El Gallo, asks the audience to use their imagination and follow him into a world of moonlight and magic. The boy and the girl fall in love, grow apart and finally find their way back to each other after realizing the truth in El Gallo’s words that, "without a hurt, the heart is hollow."

Written by Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones, this intimate show is a moving tale of young lovers, Matt and Luisa, who become disillusioned, only to discover a more mature, meaningful love is punctuated by a bountiful series of catchy, memorable songs, many of which have become classics such as “Try to Remember,” the signature song of the show.
