Central Texas College (CTC) has earned the designation of a 2018-2019 Military Friendly® School according to the military ratings division of VIQTORY, a service-disabled, veteran-owned business. Military Friendly® rates companies and colleges on their programs to recruit and retain military veterans as employees and students with the mission of creating maximum professional opportunity for our nation’s military service members, veterans and military spouses.

The list of Military Friendly® Schools and Military Friendly® Schools ratings are assessed through the evaluation of both public data about the institution and proprietary data gathered through a free Military Friendly® Schools survey. The annual, data-driven survey assessment is offered to more than 8,800 institutions nationwide. Each year, schools taking the survey are held to a higher standard than in previous years via improved methodology, criteria and weightings developed with the assistance of an independent research firm and our Advisory Council.

Survey responses are weighted in the categories of academic policies and compliance, admissions and orientation, culture and commitment, financial aid and assistance, graduation and career and military student support and retention.  Final survey results and ratings are determined by combining an institution’s survey scores with the assessment of the school’s ability to meet minimum thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment and loan default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans.

In addition, Military Friendly® uses public data sources to check if the institution has three or more of the following federal programs in operation and good standing: Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program (provision of the Post-9/11 GI Bill), official commitment to the Eight Keys to Veterans’ Success, Veterans Administration’s Principles of Excellence, Federal Financial Aid Shopping Sheet, Armed Forces Tuition Assistance (TA) Funding, DoD Voluntary Education Partnership Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Tuition Assistance, Veteran Success on Campus (VSOC) Program and Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges Network.

CTC earned the silver Military Friendly® status which means the school is within 20 percent of the 10th-ranked organization. In each of the six categories, CTC exceeded standards with the following scores: academic policies and compliance – 73.81 percent; admissions and orientation – 83.84 percent; culture and commitment – 97.44 percent; financial aid and assistance – 15.82 percent; graduation and career – 16.64 percent; and military student support and retention – 52.86 percent.

The Military Friendly® ratings program was started in 2003 as an advocacy vehicle to encourage civilian organizations to invest in programs to recruit, retain and advance veterans as employees, entrepreneurs and students. Today, nearly 2,000 civilian organizations submit surveys to become Military Friendly®.
