Central Texas College (CTC) and public radio station KNCT-FM recently announced the appointment of Michelle Flores as the station’s new general manager. She becomes only the fourth person in the station’s near 50-year history to hold that position. As general manager, Flores will oversee the day-to-day operations of the radio station, programming, fundraising and managing the station’s annual budget.
Flores began her radio career in 2009 as a student in CTC’s radio/television program where she served as a student console operator for KNCT-FM. In addition to her day-to-day duties of programming, scheduling and production Flores assisted other students by teaching them the ins-and-outs of the radio equipment and processes and provided daily live traffic reports on the air. She returned to KNCT-FM in February this year as program director before being named general manager in June.
While earning a Bachelor of Science degree in communications and marketing from Texas A&M-Central Texas, Flores worked full-time at multiple radio stations. She was a producer for Cumulus Media then served as a producer, marketing associate and on-air disc jockey for Townsquare Media.
Flores succeeded Lynn Woolley as general manager who held the position for several months after Max Rudolph retired in November 2018 with 37 years of service. She hopes to utilize her new role as KNCT general manager to expand the reach of the station. “My vision for the future of KNCT-FM is for us to become more involved, to really serve the underserved and unserved within the community,” Flores said. “I want to be able to give back to the college, as well as our listening community, that has done so much for this station for so many years. KNCT-FM really is for everybody. I hope to build our online presence so any one and every one can access us and listen to us, not just those in our immediate vicinity.”
