The Communications department hosted its spring semester Speakers’ Showcase in the campus library on April 4. The event gave the top eight students in public speaking classes the chance to compete for prizes and display their skills in using various speaking formats like demonstrative, informative and persuasive speeches.

Winning first place and a $50 CTC Bookstore gift card was Saadia Nasir who gave an informative speech on "Why Are So Many People Unhappy With Their Jobs." In second place was Ashley Schneider who presented "Pit Bulls: Myths and Facts." She received a $20 CTC Bookstore gift card.Glaiza Lopez took third place and a $20 gift card for her informative presentation, "The Stages of a Relationship." 

Honorable mention awards were presented to Victor Vasquez for "America Need to Assert its National Identity;" Danielle Pettit, Early College High School student, for her moving speech about drug addiction; Vanessa Hickey for "Phone Addiction;" dual credit student Thomas Carroll and "Car Theft Prevention;" and Joshua Schwartz who offered "Identify, Approach, Act - Suicide Prevention."

The Speakers Showcase is held each fall and spring semester and coordinated by CTC speech professor Victoria Moultry.
