Calling all actors
The Fine Arts Department will hold auditions for its spring production of “Fences” January 20-21 in the Fine Arts auditorium (Bldg. 112). Auditions will be conducted from 4 – 6 p.m. both days. The production is scheduled for March 11-13. Anyone interested in auditioning should prepare a one-minute monologue of their choice which highlights your acting strengths and be prepared to “cold” read scenes from the play.
“Fences” by August Wilson, tells the story of Troy Maxson, a middle-aged African- American, who is struggling to raise a son, keep a family together and deal with the new desires and needs everybody is beginning to feel as social standards slowly begin to change. Maxon is a restless trash-collector and former baseball athlete. Though deeply flawed, he represents the struggle for justice and fair treatment during the 1950s and the transition to the 1960s. Maxon also represents human nature’s reluctance to recognize and accept social change.
