CTC rated safest campus in Texas; fourth in nation


According to a recent study completed by StateUniversity.com, Central Texas College (CTC) was cited as the safest college campus in Texas and the fourth safest in the nation. The ranking is based on campus crime statistics accounting for the severity and frequency of crime. The statistics are based per 1,000 students.


StateUniversity.com compared crime statistics for more than 450 colleges and universities nationwide, and assigned each school a safety score based on frequency and severity of crime reported. CTC earned a safety rating of 99.2. Ahead of CTC was Arkansas State University-Beebe with a perfect 100 rating, Virginia Western Community College – 99.4 and Northeast State Technical Community College (Tennessee) also with a 99.2 rating. In fifth place nationwide was Cuesta College (California) – 99.1.


While CTC ranked first in Texas, the only other Texas school to crack the top 10 was Alvin Community College which was ranked 10th with a 98.7 rating. Other Texas schools among the top 50 safest campuses were South Plains College – 19th; University of Houston-Clear Lake – 22nd; Laredo Community College – 23rd; Amarillo College – 26th; McClennan Community College – 34th; University of Texas at Brownsville – 35th; and Texas Women’s University – 47th.


Other notable schools in Texas among the top 100 on the list included Western Texas College, the University of Houston, Texas A&M University-Commerce, Tarleton State University, El Paso Community College, the University of Texas-Pan American and the University of North Texas.
