Program Overview

The Central Texas College Associate Degree Nursing (A.D.N.) faculty are proud to present this new, exciting preceptorship program to enhance nursing education in Central Texas. Interested nurses from all avenues of nursing are invited to join our dedicated team and assist in the education of our future A.D.N. graduates.

Our website is divided into multiple linked areas. First is the Preceptor Information area. There, the Qualifications section explains what is required to become a preceptor. Next, the Benefits section informs the prospective preceptor of the benefits and professional advantages to joining our program. Finally, there is a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) link with answers to commonly asked questions.

Once a Texas Registered Nurse has decided to become a preceptor, there is a secure link to an online application. Or, the option to print, complete the application by hand or typewriter, and deliver to the Department of Nursing is also available. (Both of these application completion options are available from the right-hand menu of most, if not all, Preceptor web pages.) Once the application has been completed and accepted, the preceptor will begin the Preceptor Course. This course has several units, including:
  1. Philosophy
  2. Conceptual Framework
  3. Curriculum
  4. Student Handbook
  5. Clinical Guidelines
  6. Preceptor Evaluation of Student
  7. Evaluation of Preceptored Experience
Each of these units has further links which proceed through a brief online educational segment followed by a posttest. Once all unit posttests have been successfully completed, the certificate link allows for the printing of the Preceptor Certificate of Completion. The units may be taken in any order and may be repeated, if desired.

The Final Record link lists the date of completion for each of the individual units. You must be logged in to view your Final Record information. Check your Final Record at any time to validate completion of a unit.

In addition, to the Preceptor Information and Preceptor Course links, there are two other main categories on the website. One contains Preceptor Faculty including faculty contact information and faculty responsibilities. The other link is to Participating Facilities which provides information about each of the facilities who have written agreements to participate in the Central Texas College Department of Nursing Preceptor Program.

It is the hope and expectation of the nursing faculty that preceptors will find this program informational as well as educational. We are pleased to provide this program as an opportunity for experienced RNs to participate in the education of our future nurses.
