Advanced Standing Examinations
- CTC administers College Level Examinations Program (CLEP) and DANTES examinations, which are nationally prepared tests for students desiring to receive credit for knowledge already obtained. By this means, students may accelerate their college program and take courses at the next higher level. To obtain credit, the student must pass the exam, apply for credit, and have completed a minimum of six semester hours of course work at Central Texas College with a 2.0 GPA. Credit will not be awarded if student is currently or has previously been enrolled in the specific course. Students must submit a written request before credit will be awarded.
- It is the student's responsibility to know which exam they want to take, which institution will receive the results, and if that institution will award evaluated credit.
- Additional information and a complete listing of exams available for CLEP can be found at http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/clep/about.html
- Additional information and a complete listing of exams available for DANTES can be found at http://www.getcollegecredit.com/
High School Equivalency Examination (GED Testing)
- Central Texas College offers the General Education Development (GED) examination for those who have not completed a formal high school education and are at least 18 years of age. GED is administered by appointment only. Please call (254) 526-1661 during normal business hours for additional information.
Institutional Challenge Examinations
- Students may request, through the appropriate department chair, permission to take challenge examinations for certain courses. An application for challenging a course must be completed through the department and returned to the Testing Office with the appropriate non-refundable fee. The student will then coordinate with the Testing Office or department for the time and place to take the examination. Students must not have previously enrolled in the course for college-level credit. Those who do not make grade "A" or "B" will not be permitted to repeat the challenge examination for that course at a later time. To obtain credit, the student must pass the examination with a grade of "A" or "B," have completed a minimum six semester hours with a 2.0 grade point average, and submit a request for evaluation.
- Central Texas College also administers tests from other institutions as may be useful to people of the community. Proctoring services are available for a fee and by appointment only. For additional information, students are invited to contact the Testing Office.
- Proctored testing is required for all distance learning courses. Test descriptions and testing timelines are provided by your instructor. Check your course syllabus for details or visit the Distance Education testing page for more information.
