I became the department chairperson for the Mathematics department at Central Texas College in the spring of 2011. Before coming to CTC, I taught at Goldthwaite High School for nine years. Being a small school, I taught many courses: Algebra II, pre-calculus, AP calculus and physics, as well as coached for the girls’ athletic program. In 2002, I came to CTC to teach for the Department of Developmental Studies. After three years, I moved on to the Mathematics department where I have been teaching ever since. I teach a variety of courses, from contemporary math to calculus.

Looking back on my life, I realize I have always loved math. My favorite toys were not Barbie dolls; but Lite Brite and Spirograph… These may be before your time; but trust me, they are mathy. I graduated from Richland Springs High School (Valedictorian of my 15-member class!) and went on to major in math at Southwest Texas State University. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with a degree in math, I only knew I loved it. I graduated with a Master's of Science degree in mathematics from SWTSU in 1993, fell into teaching by the grace of God and have enjoyed every day since. My advice… pursue your passion and you will go far.

Steven Chad BurrowSome things about me: I graduated from Tarleton State University - Central Texas with both my bachelor's and master's degrees in mathematics.

My first boss at CTC, Dr. Kenneth Word, told me I was the youngest professor to be hired at CTC ever before (at the time).

In my spare time, I program in C++ on my Linux computers :) I play some video games, but I really like making them even more.

I teach all math classes, from College Algebra and Statistics all the way to Calculus 3. In class I try to be fun and exciting, and will stop for any question, for any one. Look me up on RateMyProfessor.com! :D

Dr. Audrie Cruz-SealeyI am a military brat born in Frankfurt, Germany. I grew up in Killeen because my father was also stationed here. I love the diversity of the area and I hope I won’t leave the area any time soon.

I was a high school mathematics teacher for four years and am now a full-time college professor. It is a complete change of pace but I still find the work challenging and satisfying.

I have a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Texas State University in San Marcos, TX, a Master's of Science degree in mathematics from Tarleton State University and a Ph.D. in Leadership Education Administration from Capella University.

I absolutely LOVE MATH!! The biggest piece of advice I could give all of you is DON'T PROCRASTINATE!! Once you fall behind, you start to feel extremely overwhelmed and start to perform below your optimal level to try to catch up.

Matthew LylesI became a full-time faculty member in spring 2012 after being an adjunct (part-time) for four years. I teach College Algebra, Contemporary Math, Calculus 2 and 3 and Differential Equations primarily.

I used to coach high school soccer. I am a lifetime fan of the sport. Yes, I played growing up. I also love to mountain bike, read, watch movies and hang out with my family.

I have a bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics from the University of Virginia and a master’s degree in mathematics from Arizona State University.

I do love math. While other kids were getting bedtime stories told to them, my dad and I would lie there and work out math problems in our heads. I eventually caught up with the reading, but math is part of the deal.

Kristine Tina SanNicolasHello everyone! Yes, I’m one of those crazy people that LOVES math! ;-) I PROMISE I will do everything I can to make you less frightened of it. The key to any successful learning is to not be afraid of asking questions. I guarantee the person sitting next to you wants to ask the same question, but is too afraid to ask. Also, you have to be okay with making mistakes. We all make 'em, so there's no need to be embarrassed. The most effective learning is through the mistakes we make.

  • Food: sushi, sushi and more sushi ;-), but I’ll try anything at least once… I just love eating really ;-)

Ellen FalkensteinIn September 2006, I became a full-time professor in Developmental Mathematics and a part-time instructor in the Mathematics department. Since 2012, I have been one of the coordinators for the Developmental Math/College Algebra Co-Requisite model. I thoroughly enjoy helping students master the skills required to successfully complete Developmental Math and succeed in college algebra, especially in an accelerated environment. Some of the students even decide they like math and go into mathematics education, engineering and economics.

Teaching is my second career. After graduating from the University of Virginia with a bachelor's in mathematics and economics, I began my career as a technical analyst working with contractors assigned to the Navy. After completing a MS in systems engineering, I went on to cost analysis and data analysis. Before the first Iraq war (yes, in the 1980s), I completed the cost analysis needed to put the initial Remotely Piloted Vehicles on battleships in the Middle East. I then headed a department of data analysts working on a contract to help the military find medical trends in their healthcare. I love data. I would be happy locked in a room with tons of data to analyze! I also love being in the classroom sharing my love and knowledge of mathematics. I have been very lucky in my careers because I have always enjoyed coming to “work.”
