Language study today encompasses more than the literature, but also the culture and media of the people who use a given language. It includes understanding the socioeconomic, political and educational systems of a particular language group. A major in Modern Language will prepare students for further study and to go on to build careers in business, international relations, medicine, education, non-governmental humanitarian work, tourism, film-making, social work, criminal justice, court interpreting, FBI and CIA and other U.S. government careers.
