Killeen, TX-Oveta Culp Hobby Memorial Library art gallery showcases artist Shakti Sarkin's new show Artist Shakti Sarkin "Dynamic Movement:  Painting and Sculpture-Abstracts and Realism."

Ohio native born Shakti Sarkin received her BFA at Kent State University and lived around the globe, including L.A., England, and South Africa, before landing in Austin, Texas 27 years ago.  Her travels and life experiences have shaped her outlook and art form.  She loves color and is always on the lookout to find a new combination to create a unique shade during her daily activities.  One look at her work, and the viewer is transported into a kaleidoscope of color.

"I started painting people in college and later went through a phase of painting landscapes. That was followed by a phase of painting abstracts which was triggered by dreams of trees morphing into abstraction. The next phase was working sculpturally using primarily wood bark and wire. In this art show, I show examples of my various artistic phases. If this body of work is seen as a symphony, the dynamic movements within it are figurative work, landscapes, abstract paintings, and abstract sculptures. My passion remains with all of these areas."

Attend the artist reception to hear Sarkin speak on the process and techniques she engages to create her vibrant, original pieces.  The exhibit is free and open to the community.
