Distance Gamification is a self-paced, online course designed for anyone hoping to better engage and/ or educate an internet audience. Participants learn how to implement gamified training strategies by “playing” their way through resilience boosting quests that include free films, readings and online learning games. Although the quests are self-paced, there will be periodic deadlines to ensure opportunities for asynchronous discussion, collaboration and feedback. This course looks beyond typical gamification gimmicks like leaderboards, points and badges to the motivation strategies employed by game design experts. Upon completion, students will have created a universally engaging game-like quest for a topic of their choice. Students will have asynchronous opportunities to participate, collaborate and give/ receive feedback. Instructor: Jeremy Royster is a transformative curriculum author with extensive experience intrinsically motivating students through personalized instruction. As an adjunct instructional technology professor, he has proven expertise amplifying engagement through his online gamified classroom. Certified in technology education (PK-12) and education technology leadership, Royster also creates live-action escape rooms for his middle school students.

The Fun in Failure
9 Self-paced Learning Modules
The Fun in Failure is a resilience reinforcement system that employs games to train participants how to reframe mistakes as learning opportunities. Jane McGonigal, author of SuperBetter, explains that purposeful play “really does help you become less depressed, better connected, and more resilient in real life.”(Slate, 2015) All games position players to fail repeatedly in order to learn how to win. The lessons, or “quests,” in The Fun in Failure have been designed like games to help you master the teachings of Grit Gurus like McGonigal. Upon class completion, you will have unlimited access to the learning modules and all of your work. Are you ready to turn your failures into fun? Course includes up to one hour of personal instructor support! Instructor Jeremy Royster (See Distance Gamification).

Fast-Track to PersonalizED
5 Self-paced Learning Modules
“Quest” has become a popular way to describe a lesson in a game-based learning or gamified classroom setting. But you don’t necessarily need labor-intensive gamification strategies to push student’s intrinsic motivation buttons. Instead, you can provide interactive instruction rich with opportunities for mastery, a sense of purpose, and autonomy through personalization. Each quest in this course is a model of the personalization techniques you will employ in your own quest creation. Although the quests are self-paced, there will be periodic deadlines to ensure opportunities for asynchronous discussion, collaboration and feedback. Upon class completion, you will have unlimited access to the learning modules and all of your work. Quicker Questing is the closest thing to gamified learning in half the time. NOTE: Course includes up to one hour of personal instructor support! Instructor Jeremy Royster (See Distance Gamification).
