Governor's Summer Merit Program
Continuing Education at CTC has been awarded the Governor’s Summer Merit Program (GSMP) grant through the Texas Workforce Commission to offer scholarships to underserved high school aged students interested in pursuing a STEM related career! More about the GSMP here.
LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Robotics & Coding Camp
The LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Robotics & Coding Camp will use LEGO® equipment and technology to learn about Computer Integrated Manufacturing. LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Education EV3 sets are robust, engaging non-consumable teaching and learning tools that transcend disciplines and provide students with authentic inquiry-based learning experiences. They afford students with the opportunity to acquire content knowledge while developing critical 21st century thinking skills in both scaffolded and open learning environments. In each camp, students will study text-based programming with MicroPython, a version of one of the world’s most popular programming languages. Students will design and build programmable robots to solve problems within a STEM context, understand and use input and output devices, and gain first-hand experience with forming and testing hypotheses. With Computer-Integrated Manufacturing, students will learn how industrial robots control production processes, use programming algorithms to make the robots efficient and safe, and build robots using real life manufacturing examples to perform specific tasks. George Lander and Jonathan Owens are STEM Instructors at a local school district. (5 meetings)
