Military Credentialing Programs - Clinical Medical Assistant


A clinical medical assistant works in a physician's office or clinic setting and helps the physician carry out procedures, care for patients, perform basic lab tests and administer medications.This course consists of 260 hours of accelerated classroom training with emphasis on skills mastery through hands-on practice and supervision and a 80-hour clinical. (Total 340 hours)
 

Program Description

The U.S. Department of Labor expects employment of medical assistants to increase 23 percent through the year 2028. Clinical medical assistants work in a physician’s office or a clinic setting helping physicians carry out procedures, care for patients, perform basic lab tests and administer medications. Learning objectives include identification of body parts and their functions, medical terminology, specimen collection, administration of oral and injectable medications and patient communication. Students must be 18 years of age, possess a high school diploma or equivalent and are required to take an English and math assessment the first day of class. Payment options are available. The program costs $2,695 plus the cost of textbooks and course supplies. Classes must be taken as a cohort in the order in which they are offered.  This program requires additional steps to register. Clinical Requirements: Students are required to complete the 80-hour clinical in order to receive his or her certificate of completion. The student is to provide his/her own transportation to the assigned clinical site. The student is responsible for completing the pre-clinical facility legal documentation requirements. The student will be required to attend mandatory facility in-processing and/or training and/or orientation at times other than regularly scheduled clinical/class hours. The student will not be able to attend clinical without required mandatory training. Failure to comply with the mandatory requirements for admission to the affiliated facility for clinical education experience may result in administrative withdrawal from the course. Additional clinical information will to given to students in class. Clinical location placement will be within 80 miles of Central Texas College.

*Textbooks, navy blue scrubs, blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, watch with a second hand are all required and available at the CTC Bookstore.
