Foundation Scholarship FAQs

  • How do I use my scholarship?

Once awarded, funds are held in the student's financial account until 10 days before the start of classes meeting the requirements of the scholarship. Ten days before the start of classes, funds are released and used to pay tuition or book expenses at CTC.

  • What does “once the requirements of the scholarship are met” mean?

Each scholarship has a required number of hours a student must be enrolled in each semester. If the requirement is six hours and the student begins all six hours at the start of the semester, funds will be released 10 days before the start date. If a student has a six-hour requirement and start a three-hour class on the first day of the semester and the next three-hour class starts a month later, the funds will be released 10 days before the start of the second class. This scenario would require the student to pay for the first class out of pocket. Once the funds are released after meeting the requirements of the scholarship, a refund can be requested for the funds to pay for the first class.

  • I am not attending CTC next semester. Can I transfer my scholarship to my next school?

No, scholarships awarded by the CTC Foundation office can only be used at CTC. These funds are raised and awarded to CTC students while attending CTC.

  • I will be graduating in December. Can I have my spring scholarship payment in the fall semester?

Any changes to the disbursement of funds must be made 6-weeks before the start of classes in the fall semester. This allows the changes to be processed in all of the necessary offices on campus. Awards are offered in April giving students ample time to request the change for the upcoming school term.

  • Can I use scholarship funds to purchase supplies and for other expenses?

Scholarship funds can be used for tuition and books/supplies purchased at the CTC Bookstore. Purchases made through the bookstore must be for the current semester only and must pertain to the semester for which the awards were intended to cover. Purchases made through vendors outside of CTC are not covered by CTC Foundation Scholarships.

  • Can I use my unused funds for summer classes?

No. Scholarships are designated for fall and spring semesters only.

  • I am not taking classes in the fall semester, but will be in the spring semester.  Is my fall moved to the spring semester?

CTC Foundation policy is a student must be enrolled in concurrent semesters in order to remain eligible for a scholarship.  By skipping a semester, you are no longer eligible for the scholarship in the spring semester. If you are enrolled in the fall semester, but do not use the funding in the fall, you are still eligible for the spring semester.  Funds for either semester can only be moved under certain circumstances and only if the Foundation receives the request 6 weeks prior to the start of the fall semester.

  • When will I get the money not used from my scholarship?

The money not used for educational expenses goes back to the scholarship fund it was issued from. These funds will be used to assist other students in the future with their educational expenses.

  • When can I apply for spring scholarships?

Applications are accepted annually from December 1-February 28. The awards from the application submission are for the following fall and spring semesters only. If scholarships outside the annual award cycle become available, information regarding the application process and deadlines will be posted on social media sites and the CTC website.

  • I changed my degree plan.  Will this effect my scholarship?
Possibly.  If the scholarship requires a student to be on a certain degree plan and                   you change to a degree plan not covered by the scholarship, yes, you will no longer               be eligible for the scholarship and the funds will no longer be available. This applies             to  any qualification for a scholarship.

  • I have a question about my scholarship. Who should I contact, Financial Aid or the Foundation Office?

If your scholarship was awarded by the CTC Foundation Office, you should                          contact them regarding your scholarship.  If your scholarship was awarded by an                  organization outside of CTC, you should contact the CTC Financial Aid Office.  If                you received the Chancellor's Scholarship, contact the CTC Financial Aid Office.
