My leadership philosophy is based on modeling. I have learned most of what I value and aspire to by experiencing strong and weak leaders in my career. I practice personal evaluation/reflection and participate in leadership professional development whenever possible. I believe that my personal philosophy will continue to grow, but the following is the base that guides me to have a positive impact on those around me.

  • I believe our main purpose as educational leaders is to serve and support students to reach their individual goal. All the other things we do on a daily basis still boils down to simply providing the best for our students.
  • I believe all people lead in some way every day and all have the ability to inspire others. A person does not have to supervise people to lead them.
  • I value integrity, honesty, loyalty, and the general belief that people want to do what is best.
  • As a leader, I strive to remember that my words are taken seriously and that my actions are remembered.

I aspire to model:

  • Integrity – My favorite saying is: Do the right thing even when no one is watching.
  • Humility – Those that contributed or have the most knowledge/experience should be recognized. I admire people that give praise to others. That is how a team works best.
  • Listening – I strive to listen more and inquire about both the spoken and unspoken.
  • Honesty – I strive to be appropriately honest and open. Admitting when I am wrong or made a bad decision, as well as telling a person when he/she is right.
  • Discretion - Confidentiality takes precedence and I strive to continually recognize and maintain trust, both vertically and horizontally.
  • Model the way - I strive to set the right example by aligning actions and words with values.
  • Credibility – I make every effort to keep promises. If something changes, I want to be clear about why it differs.

I place great value on:

  • Accountability, both individually and collectively - As a team, we rely on each other to participate, do our part, and take responsibility for actions.
  • Communication and Listening - I expect people to communicate in a collegial manner, as he/she would like to receive communication. I like feedback and I hope the people I lead will also seek, accept, and provide constructive and fair feedback. I expect honest, open conversations, active listening with all involved, and respect for various opinions.
  • Truth - Bring issues forward in a timely manner and provide all information, solutions, and recommendations – do not be selective with the truth.
  • Accuracy and Quality Work - Do your best to achieve the goal. If we don’t have time to do it right the first time, how will we make time to do it over.
  • Respect - Treat others as you would want to be treated.
  • Teamwork - Help each other and step up when needed.
  • Integrated Life - I value time and I believe in leading a full and healthy life, which integrates work, family, service, and personal well-being. Ultimately, this will generate a much more productive life, both at work and home.
