Cheryl Hight lives in Lawton, Oklahoma, and began teaching for Central Texas College in 2000.  She earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Home Economics from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville (her hometown) majoring in Human Development and Family Studies and her Masters in Behavior Science majoring in Early Childhood and Psychology from Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma. She has spent the past 27 years married to the military and her husband Bryan and has enjoyed the many opportunities, experiences, friends and “family” they have made throughout their journey.

In addition to teaching both online and in the classroom for CTC and at another college, Cheryl began her career teaching in a few child care programs.  She directed a hospital sponsored child enrichment center and a college child care center/lab.  Both centers received NAEYC accreditation under her direction.  She has worked as a CDA instructor, advisor, and validator.  She has also worked in corporate child care operations as:  Policy and Procedure manager, Center Conversion Manager, and currently QRIS, Training and Accreditation Specialist for programs in Oklahoma.

She has been a member of National Association of Education of Young Children, Southern Early Childhood Association, and Early Childhood Association of Oklahoma.  Currently, she is a board member of the Oklahoma Child Care Association and holds a position on the QRIS and Accreditation sub-committee.  This committee works with OK DHS to research and revise guidelines and regulations for Oklahoma Child Care Programs.

While Cheryl has held a variety of positions through the years, her passion is teaching Child Development students the joys and excitement of teaching young learners and also enjoys creating courses that are as hands-on in an online environment.  She says that she is still a life-long learner who learns from her students in each course she has the opportunity to teach.  We share in a unique teaching environment where students come for all areas of the globe.  How fortunate we are to learn from their experiences and surroundings.

In her downtime, Cheryl enjoys bargain and estate shopping, crafting, baking, and whenever possible traveling and relaxing at just about any tropical location.  Her favorite past time is spending time with her family.  She is a very proud mom and savors every minute she is able to spend with her son Will who will graduate from Midwestern State University in December and her daughter Madi, who attends Oklahoma State University and also cheers on the small co-ed team.   She and her husband are in the process of learning all the traditions and such at OSU since they both grew up as Razorback fans in Arkansas.  There are many hats worn in the Hight household – Go Hogs, Go Army, Go Pokes, Go Mustangs and of course Go Eagles!
