Hello, my name is Janeen Garza.  I received a Child Development Associates Credential in Family Child Care from the National Association for the Education of Young Children in 1996, an Administrator’s Credentials and Associates in Applied Science in Early Childhood with Highest Honors (4.0) from Central Texas College, Killeen, Texas in 1999, and Bachelors of Science degree Cum Laude in Child Development and Family Living (3.5) from Stephen F. Austin State University in 2015 plus a Child Development Associates Credential Professional Development Specialist from the National CDA Council in 2015.  I have been working with children since 1990 as a teacher, owner of Family Child Care business, mentor, trainer and center director.

I joined Central Texas College as the Child Development Department Lab Supervisor in 1999, and I am a part-time faculty where I teach child development courses.  My additional duties are being the Child Development Department and Center community liaison, marketing, recruiting, and Assistant Center Director.   I was awarded the first Central Texas College Student Choice Award in 2006 where the student body voted on their favorite faculty member and also awarded the CTC Faculty Senate Professional Development Leadership Award for 2009-2010. 

I have been involved in and volunteer in the community with many organizations.  I was instrumental in the CTC Child Development Department being awarded the 2003 Volunteer Group of the Year Award from the City of Killeen also CD Department received an award for outstanding commitment to children with special needs and Camp Care A lot in 2010 from Ft. Hood Exceptional Family Members Program (EFMP).  I am the Past-President and Program Coordinator for Central Texas Chapter of Texas AEYC.  I believe in giving back to my community.

I served in the US ARMY for six years in the medical field.  I have been married to my husband, Andrew, since 1988, who is retired US ARMY.  I am originally from North Dakota, but the US ARMY has moved us all over the world.  We have three daughters.   Oldest daughter has her PhD in Clinical Psychology while serving in the US NAVY.  Middle daughter has her master’s degree in International Relations from OU while serving in the US ARMY as a Military Intelligence Officer and detailed to Armor (tanks). The youngest daughter is a senior at Howard-Payne University and involved in and leader in a lot of different organizations in college.  She is majoring in Elementary Education and will be playing volleyball at Howard Payne University.  I am one proud Mom!!  God has blessed me and my family.
