Central Texas College (CTC) welcomed the news of the end to the government shutdown. Tuition Assistance (TA) has beeen reinstated.
“We are very thankful Tuition Assistance has been restored rather quickly,” said Dr. Thomas Klincar, CTC chancellor. “More than 1,500 enrollments by military personnel could have beeen affected if Tuition Assistance was not in place by the October 21 term start date for many of our sites across the world.”
Initially, the Army announced Headquarters – Army Continuing Education System would release the hold on soldier accounts blocking tuition assistance requests as soon as funding was released from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to the Army’s accounting office. At the same time, the program rejecting TA requests each day would be disabled.
And with the President’s signature on the Continuing Resolution passed by Congress to fund governmental operations yesterday, Tuition Assistance for classes with a start date of October 17, 2013, or after will be honored by Army Education. The program rejecting GoArmyEd classes on the start date has been disabled and soldiers with approved TA requests for classes with a start date on or after October 17 may attend their classes.
The Air Force released the following statement the same afternoon. Effective immediately, all Military Tuition Assistance (MilTA) applications for courses starting on or after October 17 may be submitted. All previously approved MilTA requests for courses which began on or after October 17 are reinstated. DoD and Service policy for courses that started October 1-16, 2013, will be distributed as soon as it is available.
Students using Military Spouse Career Advancement Account (MyCAA) can register tomorrow, October 18, as funding becomes available at 8 a.m. The MyCAA portal will be temporarily modified to allow financial assistance (FA) documents to be submitted one day before the class start date versus the normal 15 days before the course start date. Any FA documents previously submitted and approved are being processed now. Any disapproved FA documents will need to be resubmitted. MyCAA cannot pay for any classes that do not have an approved FA document and backdating of these documents is prohibited. Students are asked to check their MyCAA messages for the status of their requests.
The CTC Fort Hood campus will offer a four-week mini-term December 26, 2013 through January 24, 2014. Nine face-to-face courses will be offered during the mini-term. Registration starts Monday, October 28 and the scheduled of offered classes will be published soon online at ctc.edu.
On October 21, CTC online classes are scheduled to start across the world and at the school’s continental sites of Fort Leonard Wood, Fort Riley, Fort Lewis, Fort Benning, Fort Lee, Fort Polk and Holloman Air Force Base. CTC also has classes scheduled to start at Bolling Air Force Base on October 28.
Classes at the 16 CTC Pacific Far East Campus sites also have a start date of October 21. If Tuition Assistance is not restored prior to the class date, a late registration period for PFEC classes will be offered allowing student the opportunity to pay out-of-pocket and not be dropped from their classes.
