Killeen, TX- Central Texas College (CTC) has announced the selection of Wendy Sledd as its new Chief of Marketing and Communications. Sledd brings more than four decades of experience in professional communications, journalism, and public relations to the role.
Sledd most recently served as the Executive Director of Communications for Waco ISD. Prior to that, she led Copperas Cove ISD’s communications department for nearly a decade, where she earned statewide recognition for her strategic communication initiatives and storytelling expertise.
“I am honored to lead Central Texas College’s marketing and communications department, which is focused on maintaining open and effective relationships and communication with staff, students, families, and community members in meaningful and engaging ways,” Sledd said. “I joined the Central Texas team to serve students not only in their academic journeys but also by highlighting their achievements outside the classroom, especially in our military community.”
In her new position, Sledd will oversee a comprehensive communications portfolio, including media relations, branding, internal and external communications, public information requests, digital content management, partnerships, college publications, and oversight of the CTC website and social media platforms.
“Mrs. Sledd has 40 years of experience in journalism, professional communications, and event planning, and is a recognized state leader in public relations,” said CTC Chancellor Dr. Michele J. Carter. “We are pleased to have her expertise in this critical role.”
A former military spouse for nearly 35 years, Sledd’s career includes roles across the United States and Europe, working in television, radio, newspapers, and magazines. She also served as a political press aide on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., as well as in Virginia and Oklahoma.
Currently serving as Vice President for the West Central Texas Region of the Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA), Sledd has earned 140 state TSPRA awards, including three prestigious Crystal Awards—TSPRA’s top honor. Her journalistic achievements also include a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Investigative Reporting, as well as honors from both Louisiana teachers unions for her reporting on public education. Her work has been featured nationally in Newsweek, CNN, and the BBC.
In recognition of her extensive community service, she was named a Yellow Rose of Texas by the Governor of Texas—an honor reserved for Texas women who demonstrate exemplary leadership and volunteerism.
Sledd’s appointment underscores Central Texas College’s commitment to strengthening communication and engagement with its diverse student body and the broader community it serves. Sledd began in her new role on May 1.
