Central Texas College understands that students face issues and barriers that may prevent them from achieving their academic goals. CTC’s Academic Standards identifies these students to assist in providing the support and resources to ensure continued academic success. Below are brief definitions of Unsatisfactory Academic Progress, Academic Probation, Academic Suspension, and Academic Dismissal and the steps students must follow to return to and remain in good academic standing. Students can read the CTC catalog policy for Academic Standards here.

The information on this page refers to your academic standing only. Your grade point average (GPA) can have negative repercussions on your funding eligibility (i.e. Pell, Education Benefits, Hazlewood, etc.).  You will need to contact the appropriate office to determine your funding status.

Academic Standing Overview

  1. Academic Good Standing occurs when a student’s cumulative GPA remains at or above a 2.0 GPA.
  2. Unsatisfactory Academic Progress occurs when a student’s GPA falls below 2.0 during their initial seven (7) semester hours. Students are notified via EagleMail and provided student support services.
  3. Academic Probation occurs when a student’s GPA falls below 2.0 after their first seven (7) semester hours. Students are notified via EagleMail, must complete a Probation Agreement with their advising office prior to their next enrollment, and are provided student support services.
  4. Academic Suspension occurs if a student fails to earn a 2.0 GPA during their semester of probation and whose cumulative GPA is less than 2.0. Students are suspended for one long semester or both summer semesters. Students are permitted to appeal their semester of suspension.
  5. Academic Dismissal occurs if a student returns after a semester of suspension and does not earn a term GPA of 2.0 or above and their cumulative GPA remains below 2.0. Students in this scenario will be placed on Academic Dismissal for two long semesters (Fall/Spring) or one long semester (Spring) and the following summer sessions (both). Students are not permitted to appeal Academic Dismissal.

Academic Probation Steps

Steps to Follow:

  1. Complete the Student Probation Agreement form. Login to eForms and choose Student Probation Agreement from the ST Advising menu. Complete the eForm and send to your Advising office.
  2. Your advising office will contact you via email once your Probation Agreement has been reviewed.
  3. Adjust schedule accordingly for retakes and financial requirements.
  4. If needed, seek additional assistance from your advising office and use Academic Standing Resources (below).

Academic Suspension Steps

Steps to Follow:

  1. Contact your advising office to complete a Suspension Form.
  2.  When the Suspension period has passed (and prior to the start of the next term) read and complete the Student Probation Agreement.
  3. Students subject to suspension may appeal the decision by completing the Academic Standing Petition and Appeal form and scheduling an appointment with a success coach via email at successcoaching@ctcd.edu or phone at 254-526-3006.
  4. If needed, seek additional assistance from your advising office and use Academic Standing Resources (below).

Academic Dismissal

Steps to Follow:

1. Contact your advising office to complete a Dismissal Form.

2. When the Dismissal period has passed (and prior to the start of the next term), petition for re-entry through your advising office. Upon retry, you will be required to complete an Academic Probation – After Dismissal form via eForms.

3. If needed, seek additional assistance from your advising office and use Academic Standing Resources (below).
