Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) materials are books, articles, or other items borrowed from other libraries for use by CTC patrons.
The ILL Department can locate books and journal articles which are NOT part of the CTC Library collection and arrange to have them sent here for you to use. You can check the Library Catalog for books and hard copy journals or our electronic resources for articles first.
Materials not available for loan:
Materials usually not available for ILL include: newspapers, reference items, current periodicals, bound periodical volumes, required textbooks, genealogical and local history materials, audiovisual materials, thesis, dissertations, microfilm/form.
How do I request an ILL?
Search for the item you are looking for in the Library Catalog.
Type in your search terms and hit enter.
Select the item you want. You may need to select “Libraries Worldwide” to find what you are looking for.
Click on the item you want to go to its page. Under “Availability”, look to see if the library has a copy available in its collection. If the item is not available at the library, there will be a button to “Request Item through Interlibrary Loan”.
When you click on this button it will send you to a form to request the item through ILL. Fill out the form, and click “Submit”. The Patron ID is your CTC ID number as found on your CTC ID card.
A member of the Interlibrary Loan Department will contact you with updates about your request and let you know when it is available for pickup at the library’s front desk.
How long does it take?
The ILL service generally takes between one and two weeks, but can take up to four weeks depending on the item and lending library.
May I renew my ILL?
ILLs cannot be renewed online or at the front desk. Please e-mail ReferenceRequest@ctcd.edu about requesting a renewal from the lending library.
Who is allowed to request an ILL?
Current CTC students, faculty, and staff may request items. Borrowers must bring their CTC ID with them to check out their ILL item.
How many items can I request?
Students can request a maximum of three items. Faculty and staff members do not have a limit.
