Marlene Henry, MCJ, CHW-I 

Program Director/Professor

Marlene Henry, ProfessorProfessor Henry completed a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Sociology with a minor in Social Work from Tarleton State University. She received her master’s degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology from Tarleton State University/Texas A&M University-Central Texas. She served in the United States Army for eight years. This included tours of duty in Korea, Germany (7th Signal Brigade, Mannheim, Germany) and Fort Hood (TEXCOM/OTC). She started her career at Central Texas College in the file room in Human Resources and currently is a full-time professor and Program Director for the Human Services Program. She is an active participant in her church and her community.

 

Bertha Genna Kondrak, LCSW, ACSW, CHW-I

Professor 

Bertha Genna Kondrak has worked as faculty at Central Texas College (CTC) in the Human Services Program since 2003. She was initially an adjunct professor and in 2005 moved to full-time. She came to CTC with an extensive mental health background.  She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. She then worked for 19 years as a Case Supervisor in residential treatment in a direct care, case manager, and supervisory capacity. She then received her Master of Science in Social Work (MSSW) from the University of Texas at Austin in Clinical Social Work and became licensed in the State of Texas as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). In 1989 Ms. Kondrak started her private practice as a psychotherapist. During this time frame, she also participated in contract work with various psychiatric hospitals, school districts, workshops, and training programs. She has run groups in several psychiatric and school settings, as well as other community organizations. She continues this private practice today on a part-time basis. Bertha came to CTC with the academic and experiential knowledge to teach theory and application to the Human Services’ students. She also brings with her the ethics and professionalism of the field. In addition to teaching human services, she is active in numerous committees on campus. She is a member of the Central Texas College Faculty Senate and served as Secretary and President and actively on the Professional Development Committee. She believes in student success being the foremost goal in education and teaching all different types of learners and assessing them using a variety of methods. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling- especially overseas.

 

Steven Dorsey, LPC-S, LPC-I

Professor

As a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) with more than a decade of experience, I am dedicated to guiding students and early-career counselors toward growth and excellence in the field of psychology. In my roles as an educator and clinical supervisor, I combine academic rigor with practical insight to prepare the next generation of counselors for meaningful, ethical practice.

My academic journey includes studies at Central Texas College, the University of Maryland, and the University of North Texas, where I majored in psychology. I earned my Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Texas A&M University–Central Texas, which equipped me with the advanced skills needed to foster both clinical effectiveness and student learning.

Professionally, I have worked across private practice, community mental health, and academic settings. As a faculty member, I teach courses such as Introduction to Psychology, Health Psychology, and Counseling Skills, emphasizing active engagement and the connection between theory and application. My teaching philosophy centers on empathy, cultural sensitivity, and ethical decision-making, creating secure and inclusive learning environments where students feel confident exploring complex ideas.

I remain committed to preparing future counselors to serve diverse client populations with competence, compassion, and integrity.

 

Jolene Lopez

Office Assistant II

Jolene is a Native American (Navajo) from Arizona and a proud United States Army veteran with eight years of honorable service. Her military career included assignments with the 191st Ordnance Battalion in Germany, the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, and the 3rd Armored Training Brigade at Fort Riley. She also completed a 15-month deployment to Iraq.

Following her military service, Mrs. Lopez earned an Associate's Degree in Healthcare Administration, from the University of Phoenix. She remains actively engaged in her community through participation in multiple local volunteer organizations.  

 

Our Adjunct Professors


Dr. Robin Beauregard, LPC, LCDC

Professor

Dr. Robin Beauregard has worked in the mental health field for over 30 years. Her experience includes residential treatment centers, geri-pysch units, a charter school, private practice, and contracting with the Department of Defense. She has specialized in women issues, children and families in the foster care system, military personnel and their families, and utilized animal-assisted therapy, using both dogs and horses to reach clients.  She has worked with CTC since 1996 as both an Adjunct and full-time Faculty member and is passionate about training future LCDC's.  

 

Wilzata Buie, LCSW-S, CHW-I

Professor

Wilzata Buie is a experienced Licensed Clinical Social Worker-Supervisor in the state of Texas. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Texas A&M University–Central Texas and a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington. Her journey into the mental health field began at Central Texas College, where she earned an Associate’s degree in Mental Health.In addition to her academic accomplishments, Mrs. Buie is a certified Community Health Worker Instructor (CHW-I). Her experience spans multiple areas within the mental health field, reflecting her versatility and commitment to serving diverse populations. She has worked extensively in medical settings, primarily supporting veterans facing a wide range of mental health challenges. Her clinical experience includes work in oncology, emergency room services, homelessness, and substance use treatment. She also provides therapy to adolescents and young adults, demonstrating a compassionate, client-centered approach across various life stages. Ms. Buie remains actively engaged in the professional social work community. She previously served as the Continuing Education Coordinator for the Central Texas branch of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), where she supported the ongoing development of fellow social workers and contributed to the advancement of the profession.Outside of her professional life, Mrs. Buie is a  United States Army veteran who served alongside her husband. Together, they are the proud parents of two children. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and spending quality time with family and friends.

 

Dr. Renee Henry, Ed.D, LISW, LCDC

Professor

Dr. Henry received her Bachelor of Science  degree in Social Work from the University of Mary Hardin Baylor, her Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington. A Doctorate in Education Leadership from University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and a Doctorate of Faith-based Counseling from the Institute for Teaching God’s Word. Over a 35-year period, Dr. Henry has counseled in various work settings including Juvenile Justice, homeless youth, and the Texas Peer Association Program for Nurses. Areas of professional interests are marriage, family, and individual counseling. She is currently serving as an adjunct professor for the Institute for Teaching God’s Word and Central Texas College teaching courses in Mental Health from Biblical and secular viewpoints.

 

Ginger Lucas, LMSW

Professor

My name is Ginger Lucas and I have been a Licensed Master Social Worker since 1998.I received my BS from Texas A&M in 1996 and an MSSW from the University of Texas in 1998. I completed my field practicum at the Boston Area Rape Crisis center and provided individual counseling, group counseling and community education. I began my professional career as a Hospice Social Worker. Eventually, I became the director of a maternity shelter and now have been teaching as an adjunct faculty for Central Texas College since 2002. 

 

 

Veronica Martin, LCDC

Professor

Veronica Martin is a Professor in the Human Services program within the Department of Health Sciences at Central Texas College. A proud graduate of CTC, she brings over 20 years of experience supporting student growth and academic success. Her teaching focuses on preparing students for meaningful careers in counseling, social services, and community-based work. She is committed to fostering a student-centered learning environment that emphasizes practical skill development, critical thinking, and ethical decision-making. Veronica believes education should empower students to become responsive and compassionate professionals who contribute meaningfully to the well-being of others and the communities they serve.

 

Ron Porter

Professor

Ron is a Counselor with over 38 years experience providing individual, family, and group
counseling and drug/alcohol abuse prevention/treatment education. Worked in such roles
as a Case Manager, Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, Director of Education for a
Residential Adult Drug Treatment Center, and a supervisor for an Outpatient Adult Drug
Treatment Center. He worked extensively with dual diagnosis juveniles as a Counselor and
then Clinical Director for a Juvenile Nonprofit Residential Treatment Center. In Juvenile
Maximum Security State Facilities he worked as a Program Supervisor for Residential Drug
Treatment Center and then later as a Program Supervisor for a Residential Juvenile Sex
Offender Treatment Program with dual diagnosis juveniles. Ron holds a Master of Arts in
Counseling from St. Mary’s University and a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science
from Texas A & M University. Currently Adjunct Faculty for Human Services Program at
Central Texas College teaching a number of online classes in the Chemical Dependency
area. Ron is the full-time Assistant Director of the Student Wellness and Counseling
Center at Texas A&M University in Killeen, Texas. Special interests include utilizing a wide
range of outdoor therapeutic experiences, nutrition, and exercise in promoting healing,
wellness and personal growth. Ron enjoys a variety of outdoor activities with family and
friends. He and his wife have been happily married for 41 years. They have 3 children and 6
grandchildren.

 

Dr. Tara Wallace, MSW, LSCSW, CTF-CBT/PSB, RYT, CSLC

Professor

Dr. Tara D. Wallace is a licensed clinical social worker and child trauma therapist in private practice.  Her social work career has led to specialization in art therapy, bibliotherapy, maternal mental health, trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy and problematic sexualized behavior. She volunteers on numerous community boards whose missions support the wellbeing of children and families in Kansas. In addition to teaching undergraduate students at Central Texas College, Tara is also the founder of a non-profit, Lighthouse Therapeutic Community Outreach Foundation, which promotes (W)Holistic Wellness™ in low-income and low-access communities. Lighthouse TCOF provides free and reduced mental health services to underserved families, supports low performing schools by volunteering on literacy projects, facilitating social-emotional groups, and contributing to projects to boost staff morale. Tara is past chair of the Social and Economic, Justice & Peace Specialty Practice Section for the National Association of Social Workers and a member of the Kansas Children’s Cabinet and Trust Fund. She is a member of the Chi Delta Zeta chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, and The Topeka (KS) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. Tara currently lives in Topeka, KS with her husband, son, and their four fur babies. When not advocating for the needs of children and families, she enjoys spending time with family, reading, or engaged in any number of creative arts.
